Judicial Committees:

There are campus wide judicial committees that consist of students from the University. At the Office of Student Judicial Affairs, we are committed to assembling a wide range of people to serve on these committees. There are specific days that these committees meet, and they hear cases that are brought before them. This is a great way for students to get involved with the judicial process. If you are interested in becoming a member of one of these committees, call 622-1500 and say that you are interested in serving on a judicial committee, or e-mail us at Brandon.Williams@eku.edu

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF JUDICIAL COMMITTEES?

The judicial committees offer a peer level hearing body to address cases involving violations of the General Regulations Concerning Student Behavior that occur on Eastern's campus. It provides students the opportunity to become involved in the student disciplinary process of the University.

WHAT IS THE JURISDICTION OF THE COMMITTEE?

The judicial committees have campus wide jurisdiction. The Office of Student Judicial Affairs assigns cases to each committee.

HOW ARE THE JUDICIAL COMMITTEES STRUCTURED?

Each judicial committee consists of five members and one alternate. All members are expected to attend all committee hearings. If a committee member is unable to attend a hearing, he/she must notify the chairperson and the committee advisor, preferably 24 hours in advance of the hearing. To conduct a hearing, there must be a quorum present at the hearing. A quorum will be defined as four voting members.

The judicial committee advisors will appoint a chair and a vice chair that will preside over the hearings. In addition to committee members and alternates, each judicial committee will have a University representative who is appointed by the judicial committee advisor.

WHAT ARE THE QUALIFICATIONS TO BE A JUDICIAL COMMITTEE MEMBER OR STUDENT ADVISOR?

Students wishing to serve on a judicial committee or be a student advisor must have a minimum overall grade point average of 2.25.

Resident assistants may serve on the committee; however, the committees are limited to a maximum of one RA per committee.

HOW ARE THE COMMITTEE MEMBERS NOTIFIED OF HEARINGS?

The committees meet weekly at a time determined by the Office of Student Judicial Affairs. Members should assume that there will be a hearing every week. Members and advisors will be notified of any change in the schedule as soon as it is made via e-mail. All members are required to obtain an EKU e-mail address.
